(AGI) Shanghai, April 21 – Architecture and materials for sustainable cities are the focus of two projects presented at the Shanghai Technology Fair by Italy's Emilia Romagna and Sicily regions. The goal of the project "Rigers: city regeneration, smart buildings and grids" is to develop an integrated system for the regeneration of buildings and energy networks. It was developed by Istituto Cooperativo per l'Innovazione, Cpl Concordia, S.a.t.a. Bologna University, ITC-CNR, CMC Sacmi and Cooperativa Meccanica Imola – a sustainable architecture project covering function, energy, the environment and seismic aspects for the needs of smart cities. It also monitors the working and consumption of buildings and networks, cooperating with other systems already in use in the cities. The "Smart Concrete" project – developed by Progetto Sicilia Micro, Nano Sistemi, Effegi Elettronica Snc, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Polytechnic of Turin, SPEA, ST Microelettronica and the University of Catania – aims to develop high-performance low-cost technologies, and systems that monitor building safety by applying smart structures used in aeronautics and mechanics. These structures make it possible to monitor continuously the state of a building's efficiency and reliability. (AGI) .
